This is the original, unedited version of "Lost the Right" that finally appeared on "Straight." This version is from the first round of recordings, which were ultimately scrapped (the only survivors from those sessions with producer David Houston were "On the Horizon" and "Here We Are," the latter of which simply could not be improved upon.)
I frankly prefer this version, though I understand why I agreed to co-producer Brian Wheat's desire that the song be edited. But there are some great moments on this version, especially the "We can leave the bad behind/But we leave the good there, too" bit, and just the overall druggy soul showcase rave-up feel it has. I may well go back to playing it this way live. It just works for me. But then, I'm a big drama king...
