about
This was supposed to be the opening track, from a thematic point of view, of "Straight." But though I recorded it three times, in three different studios, I just wasn't satisfied, and neither was co-producer Brian Wheat.
It's about walking away from comfort and familiarity, and in that sense, it was the PERFECT opener to the album - "The Leveling Wind" is SO a second song, not an opener - but it just didn't work. It's too hard, too big, and too...something. Then again, one friend says it's his favorite of my songs, so...I still would like to record it properly some day. But in the meantime, might as well put it up here and see what happens. The odds of me going back and trying to record it for a fourth time seem rather slim.
